The decision to rebuild rather than refurbish provided the owners with a much better internal layout and ultimately proved to be a more cost effective option. The house was designed to be very energy efficient; in addition to its high standard of insulation it also has features such as a heat recovery system, triple glazing, and solar thermal water heating. A full height glazed screen has been incorporated into the front veranda to provide further protection from off shore winds.
